Transfer news

“It’s very highly unlikely that he plays for Wolves again considering he made it pretty clear he didn’t want to be there and Wolves moved him on”- Journalist confirms Portuguese winger is now unlikely to play for Wolves again as club looks to cut losses and sell player permanently this summer after he demanded exit

Wolves currently have a player on their books who is ‘highly unlikely’ to ever wear the old gold shirt again. Wolves fans are very much looking forward to the 2024 summer transfer window after the chaos of the last one.

Wolves should have a bit more freedom to spend this time around, having been very careful to stay the right side of PSR in recent times.

That said, there will still be a few player sales with Pedro Neto likely the biggest. It has been reported that Manchester City and several other top clubs are keen, and the feeling is that he will be the ‘big’ departure of the summer.

But there is also a strong possibility that Goncalo Guedes will be sold this time around, as journalist Liam Keen provided an update on the loanee…

Keen and Nathan Judah sat down to discuss the Wolves players currently out on loan – and there was an update on Guedes, who has been with Villarreal this term.

Guedes spent the second half of last season on loan at Benfica, but his stint was interrupted by injury. He remained with the Portuguese giants for the first half of the current season, but after struggling for minutes he then joined Villarreal in January.

So far, Guedes has made 12 appearances for the club, and scored two goals and made three assists. The 27-year-old is enjoying a better spell than he did at Benfica, but any notion he could return to Wolves and turn a corner has been dismissed by Keen.

He said of the player (via Shots TV): “They (Villarreal) seem happy enough with what he’s offering. Not a lot of goals, not a lot of impact numbers-wise. But certainly playing a lot more minutes, Villarreal seem happy enough with what he’s offering. Which hopefully can be good news for Wolves to get some money for him in the summer.

“It’s very highly unlikely that he plays for Wolves again, considering he made it pretty clear he didn’t want to be there and Wolves moved him on. Wolves’ effort now is to try and get as much money as they can for him in the summer. Hopefully, the fact he’s playing a bit more regularly at a good club in a good league will give them that chance.”

Asked by Judah if Wolves would be keen to get him out, rather than loan him out again, Keen added: “Yeah I think if Wolves can get anything close to the £27.5 million they would be delighted.”

Keen did go on to say that it is not absolutely out of the question that Gary O’Neil could turn around and try to bring Guedes back into the fold at Wolves. But he did add that that would be extremely unlikely.

O’Neil wants players who want to play for Wolves, and unless something has changed in his mind recently, Guedes is not that player. His signing has proven to be a big mistake. Seemingly, he was pushed to Molineux by the agent Jorge Mendes, perhaps against his true will.

He is reportedly on £90,000 per week at Molineux, which may well explain why he ended up making the move. But most of Guedes’ performances in a Wolves shirt were poor, and it was clear watching him that he was disinterested and fans could never warm to him.

Hopefully, Wolves can move him on permanently this summer. The club will have to take a big financial hit which will be a frustration, but it is what it is, and the sale money can at least be put towards signing new players.
