“He shouldn’t be going into the new season as West Ham manager, there shouldn’t be any faith in him” – EPL Pundit slams West Ham decision to stick with David Moyes ahead of new season

Rory Jennings slams David Moyes in West Ham United sack verdict live on talkSPORT
There is “no way” that David Moyes should be going into the new season as West Ham manager, according to Rory Jennings.

The manager guided the East London club to the Europa Conference League trophy and Premier League safety last season.

But, speaking on talkSPORT, Jennings believes the Scot has papered over the cracks by helping the club lift European silverware.

“There shouldn’t be any faith [in Moyes],” Jennings said live on talkSPORT. “David Moyes isn’t a good enough manager. You can paper over cracks with European silverware and that’s what he’s done.

“What he managed to do there, winning that trophy, is huge. It’s historic, and winning silverware is massive. But bad managers can have a lot of success.

“You can win silverware and still deserve to get sacked, and David Moyes is a prime example of that. Fair play to Moyes, I’m glad that he had his day in the sun, but there is no way that he should be going into the new season as West Ham manager.”

Moyes was under huge pressure at one stage last season, with the club in real danger of being relegated to the Championship.

However, the board backed the Scot, with that decision proving hugely successful as he not only guided them to safety, but also to the Europa Conference League title.

The pressure on his shoulders came at a time when plenty of sackings were taking place in the Premier League, with some working out and others not working out.

But things have gone backwards since the end of last season, with the Hammers left hugely frustrated in the summer transfer window.

Moyes will definitely find himself under similar pressure once again if he cannot bring a few new faces to the London Stadium in time for the new campaign kicking off.

He certainly deserves time after his heroics in the dugout last time out, but the West Ham board will not exactly be too kind to the manager if things go badly from the start.
