“They are a very attractive proposition for any manager, I think they will be one of the favourites to come back up even with just one or two changes”- Ex PL-CEO backs Burnley to attract top manager as he tips Clarets to bounce straight back to Premier League

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Burnley will be looking to strengthen in two positions this summer following their relegation to the Championship.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – admitted the Clarets need to bring some more experience in to help them in their bid to return to the Premier League.

Burnley are on the lookout for a new manager after Vincent Kompany left the club to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Football Insider revealed on 28 May that Clarets chiefs are currently at odds over who to appoint as the Belgian’s successor as they look to put the pieces in place to secure an automatic return to the top flight next season.

Former Chelsea and Everton manager Frank Lampard and Kompany’s assistant manager Craig Bellamy are believed to be in the frame to take charge at Turf Moor. Football Insider revealed on 30 May that Burnley have also contacted West Brom boss Carlos Corberan about their vacant managerial position.

Wyness believes the Burnley job is a “very attractive proposition” and they are likely to be one of the favourites to achieve promotion with just a couple of new signings this summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast:

“They are going to be looking for free agents.

“They are going to be looking for experience still. You can’t get enough experience in the Championship as long as they’ve got the legs. You really do need that.

“It shouldn’t be a place to blood young talents in six or seven positions. You’ve got to have that heart of experience that can do it in the Championship.

“I’m a firm believer in that and I’ve seen for many seasons what’s required.

“Burnley are not short at the moment. They have a very good nucleus of a squad. It will be up to a new manager to come in and assess who he’s got.

“One area they lacked a little bit was they let a lot of goals in and that’s got to be reviewed.

“But also, they didn’t score that many either. It’s probably both ends of the pitch, but in midfield they acquitted themselves very well.

“I’ve got to see how the managerial merry-go-round ends with Burnley, but they are a very attractive proposition for any manager.

“I think they will be one of the favourites to come back up even with just one or two changes.”
