CONFIRMED: Fabrizio Romano confirms West Ham are set to complete first January signing with Hammers now close to agreeing Kalvin Phillips deal after breakthrough as player decides to join David Moyes side

West Ham are expecting to agree the signing of Man City star Kalvin Phillips according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

All parties are confident of a breakthrough in talks after further progress was made overnight.

West Ham are working on reaching an agreement for the England midfielder to join until the end of the season.

The Irons are in pole position to sign the former Leeds star, who has been told he is free to move for the second half of the campaign after being almost frozen out by Pep Guardiola at City.

Newcastle, Crystal Palace, Tottenham, Everton and Juventus are among the clubs to have registered an interest in Phillips but have been put off by the conditions of the deal.

It is understood City were initially looking for a £6million loan fee for Phillips, in addition to offloading a large percentage of his wages.

It is believed Phillips is eager for a move away from the Etihad so he can earn regular first-team football ahead of the Euros this summer.

The midfielder has made just two starts across 10 appearances in all competitions this season and has amassed a total of 318 minutes.

It is expected to be a busy window for the Hammers, who are looking to offload key stars before the 1 February cut-off date.

As revealed by Football Insider (21 January), both Maxwel Cornet and Said Benrahma are likely to be sold if appropriate bids come in before the end of the window.

They also have their sights set on bringing in new attackers this month, with Football Insider revealing (20 January) that they are now favourites to sign Leeds United star Wilfried Gnonto.

West Ham sit sixth in the Premier League table after their 2-2 draw against Sheffield United on Sunday (21 January).

They are next in action against Bournemouth at the London Stadium on Thursday 1 February.
