“Yess, Brilliant,l” – Gary Lineker praises Leicester duo for their display in 1-1 draw against Leeds United

Former Leicester City striker turned Match of the Day presenter Gary Lineker has praised James Maddison and Jamie Vardy for their role in City’s late equaliser in the draw vs Leeds United.

City travelled to Elland Road on Tuesday night knowing that three points would lift them above their opponents in the Premier League table.

And they thought that they had taken the lead in the early stages, when Youri Tielemans scored spectacularly when the ball dropped to him on the edge of the area. However, VAR ruled the goal out after Boubakary Soumare was ruled to be offside before he played the ball back.

It then got worse for City when Luis Sinisterra headed in at the back post to give Leeds the lead in the 20th minute. That is how the scoreline stayed until 10 minutes to go.

The ball broke to Kelechi Iheanacho in Leeds’ half and the striker was able to find Maddison despite pulling up with what looked like a groin injury. Maddison then found Vardy in the box, with the striker making no mistake to score his first goal in over six months.

Writing on social media, Lineker gave his reaction to the goal, praising both Maddison and Vardy for their parts. “Yesssss! Brilliant from @Madders10, even better from @vardy7,” he wrote. “Come on @LCFC.

Following the game Maddison said that he didn’t have any doubt that Vardy would finish the chance. “It’s our responsibility to take that responsibility and produce for our fans, our club,” he told BT Sport.

“I got the assist today, and this man (Vardy) scores goals no matter what age he is, he was born to score goals, so after my touch when I looked and saw it was him finishing it off I felt calm.

“There’ll be more big moments needed between now and the end of the season, we’ve got to take them on, take the challenges and hopefully get the end goal.”
