Burnley are preparing for life back in the Championship after a disappointing year in the Premier League.
Vincent Kompany led the Clarets back to the top flight in 2023, but could only oversee a 19th place finish in 2023/24.
The Belgian earned a move to Bayern Munich following the end of the season, leaving the Lancashire outfit with a manager.
The search for his replacement is ongoing, with a number of candidates emerging as a possible appointment.
But, with the summer transfer window also open, there is a lot to expect from Burnley in the coming weeks in preparation for the new season.
FLW’s Burnley fan pundit Ben Livingstone has made two predictions regarding the first team squad ahead of their return to pre-season later this month.
He believes that Josh Brownhill will be sold, but that Wout Wehorst will remain at Turf Moor beyond the summer window.
“I’m going to go a bit bold with one, and one of them is that Wout Weghorst is going to stay at Burnley,” Livingstone told Football League World.
“That is one of my predictions, I think it might happen.
“I think Josh Brownhill might leave the club, that’s another prediction I’ve got.
“To be honest, it’s really, really hard to say because there could be so much that happens this summer.
“So they’re probably the two main predictions that I have.
“In terms of incomings, I have no clue right now purely because I don’t know who the manager is going to be.
“Maybe once we know who the manager is going to be, maybe we can [know].
“Like when Vincent Kompany you knew Josh Cullen was going to come, you had an idea Taylor Harwood-Bellis could also come.
“Until a new manager comes in, I don’t think you can say too much.
“I think Brownhill, his one year [extension] was activated, I think he’ll be sold this summer, for £8 to 10 million, and I think Wout Wehorst will stay at the club, which would be a very controversial one.”
Weghorst signed for Burnley in the 2022 January window, when Sean Dyche was still in charge at Turf Moor.
The striker was brought in to help the club avoid relegation to the Championship, but the team finished in the bottom three that campaign. Their relegation led to his departure on loan to Besiktas and Manchester United during 2022/23, before he went back to Hoffenheim on loan in the summer of 2023.
Meanwhile, Brownhill has been with the second division side since January 2020, joining from Bristol City.
Whoever is appointed as manager at Burnley next will have a lot of work to do to prepare his team for the season ahead. The summer transfer window is likely to be busy, with a few departures expected from the squad.
Weghorst’s future likely won’t be decided until after Euro 2024, given he is currently competing as part of Ronald Koeman’s side and scored the winner against Poland on Sunday afternoon.
Brownhill could also depart, with the midfielder now entering the final 12 months of his current contract, which means he could leave for nothing in 2025 if not sold now.
