“Will win the league, That’s a Premier League club in waiting, Even the best teams don’t stop Leeds doing that”- Millwall boss Neil Harris praises Leeds as he tips Whites to win Championship
NEIL Harris admitted he was “extremely envious” of some of the talent Leeds United had at their disposal following Millwall’s loss at Elland Road.
Wilfried Gnonto and Dan James did the damage in an impressive Leeds display that sent them top of the Championship.
Having recently spent three seasons in the Premier League, Leeds have been able to splash the cash with their record signing, Georginio Rutter, costing £36m.
The Frenchman was among Leeds’ most impressive performers on a warm afternoon at Elland Road and Harris reflected on the gulf between the two clubs’ resources after the game.
He said: “You have to stay in games, you have to be hard to beat. You look at Leeds’ line-up and their bench – I’m extremely envious of that. That’s a Premier League club in waiting again and ultimately a football club that should be in the Premier League.
“They’ve got the resources to be able to do it and will do it this year, in my opinion. We had to stay in the game, we had to be disciplined. And I think that’s my only disappointment, the manner of the goals we conceded. When they cut through us and play really well, it’s hard to stop that. Even the best teams don’t stop Leeds doing that.
“The fact we shot ourselves in the foot a little bit with the goals we conceded was my only disappointed.”
Neil Harris also told his Millwall players to feel no despondency after the defeat.
“We have to deal with adversity,” said Harris. “We dealt with it at Southampton – they equalised against us at St Mary’s and we bounced back to score a minute later. Blackburn came back and took a point off us at their place and we bounced back to beat Birmingham.
“We have to deal with the defeat today and bounce back in the international break.
“I don’t want the lads that go away on international duty, or the ones who will be off for a couple of days now, to come back with a negative. What they have done is fantastic. What we have achieved – as an identity of a football club over the last three weeks has excellent.
“We have got 10 points from five games and we’ve played Leeds – who will win the league – we’ve played at Southampton, who are a very good side. We played against Watford, who are great individually. We played at Blackburn, which was a tough nail-biter. We’ve had a really tough run of fixtures and we’ve picked up 10 points.”
