Just five matches in and the London Stadium crowd – many of whom wanted Moyes out despite the Scot overseeing the club’s most successful period in decades – turned on the new manager midway through the second half in the 3-0 defeat to Chelsea

All Lopetegui has to show so far for a £120million outlay on nine summer signings since replacing David Moyes is three home defeats, a scrappy win at Crystal Palace and a last-gasp draw with Fulham.

Lopetegui’s decision to substitute Crysencio Summerville, who in fairness was by no means the worst performer, was met with loud boos. Moyes may well have been counting his blessings that he left when he did as he watched his old side unravel from the comfort of the beIN Sports studio.

West Ham had been dreadful on the afternoon against their London rivals and the boos rightly rung out at full-time from a large section of the home supporters who showed their displeasure.

A couple of fans also took to social media to share their displeasure about their poor start to the season with many quick to point to Lopetegui for blame.

One fan: “I suggested last year when many were yelling for the sacking of Moyes, it would come back and bite us in the posterior. Where are we positioned now? Should never have sacked him!”

A second commented: “Lopetegui is quite possibly the worst appointment in the club’s history. Never before has a West ham team lost there opening 3 home games, the writing is on the wall. The guy is out his depth and why Sullivan appointed him is beyond me, relegation battle looks guaranteed.

A Third fan commented: “We have lost our first three home games of a season for the FIRST TIME EVER in our 129 year existence🤦🏻‍♂️

A fourth fan said: “Team selection was correct on paper that was simply down to tactics he got it all wrong. Taking Summerville off was a disgrace best player on the pitch with kudus. After that I have no faith in j lo his tactics or playing style that was a disaster. He needs 10 games but we can’t go on like that for another 5 will be in the bottom 3 before you know it.

A fifth fan said: “Should never have let Moyes go – brought the most success to the club in thirty odd years and didn’t deserve being pushed out for a manager that will probably have more syllables in his name than points on the board at the end of the season.

Another commented: “The west ham players are not motivated by this excuse for a manager if this continues we will be relegated by Christmas at this rate get this manager out of our club before it’s to late”.

Another fan said: “I’ve said since day one the manager isn’t the right man for the job at Westham, what’s the point in buying quality players if your just gonna bench them, don’t change the tactics or style and bring in a manager who isn’t proven at any level and couldn’t hack the prem with Wolves when he was backed in market. Wrong choice of manager, I expect to lose every game until he gets sacked.
