“We need help, You take £100m last summer, you take £100m this summer, you can’t stand still in the market, it’s a ruthless league”- Gary O’Neil calls out Wolves owners Fosun as he expresses frustration over lack of signings & investment on Wolves squad after opening day defeat to Arsenal

With transfer deadline day closing in, Wolves are yet to find replacements for Pedro Neto and Max Kilman. The club has yet to bring in any new additions since the start of July and has since lost two of its biggest stars from the 2023/24 campaign.

This has caused concern among the Molineux faithful, with Wolves in dire need of new quality signings to ensure the team remains competitive in the Premier League. O’Neil is seemingly in agreement with this, as the Wolves manager made another strong indication that he wants further signings before deadline day.

Gary O’Neil insists Wolves ‘can’t stand still’ in the transfer market

For two summers in a row, Wolves have made a massive profit in the transfer market. While the first was fueled by FFP concerns, it is believed that the Old Gold have now balanced the books. Yet, in the current window, Fosun has still refused to spend.

O’Neil stated before the Arsenal match that ‘Wolves need to be clever’ in the transfer market, with limited funds available. Now, in the aftermath of the recent result, the manager appears to be putting pressure on Fosun in order to get signings over the line.

He said: “No real update on names linked, it’s a ruthless league and we have an opportunity to be really clever and get some stuff done, the next 2 weeks is big for us…you take £100m last summer, you take £100m this summer, you can’t stand still in the market, we need help.”

It is criminal that Fosun has not yet used the money from Neto and Kilman to invest in the Wolves squad. In the Premier League, teams cannot expect to stay in the division if they don’t make new signings to improve their team.

O’Neil clearly has the ability to take Wolves further up the table, but with a lack of investment, he will no doubt struggle to reach the club’s potential. Even if signings do come in over the coming weeks, it is unacceptable that the owners were not prepared for the departures of Kilman and Neto. The latter had been linked away consistently for years.

Wolves should have had replacements lined up from the minute they left in order to give O’Neil time to work with them in pre-season and integrate them into the system.
