Ty Bracey thinks Aston Villa should sign Tammy Abraham as a replacement for Jhon Duran, who has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham United.

Fabrizio Romano has reported (9 July) that the Colombian has agreed personal terms with the Hammers with negotiations set to begin over a fee.

The latest offer is worth £35million with a 10 per cent sell-on clause which would have to be used to replace the 20-year-old ahead of the season starting.

Villa podcaster Bracey has mooted former Villa striker, Abraham as an option to play second fiddle to Ollie Watkins next season.

Speaking exclusively to Villa News, Bracey said: “Villa will need a strong number two to play alongside and backup to Watkins. It needs to be someone experienced or someone with a big future, who is a prospect.

Jhon Duran was that guy but he doesn’t want it. They’ve been linked to Joao Felix and to Cheisa who aren’t proper strikers but I think they’d cover there.

I’d take Tammy Abraham, I would, as long as the fee wasn’t crazy. The issue Villa could have, if Watkins gets injured, is who’s the like-for-like replacement?

The signing needs to be someone you’d be confident to take up the mantle and score goals considering how congested the season is going to be. Someone like Abraham would settle in quickly, we know he can score goals.

It has been clear from early on in the transfer window that Duran was going to depart Villa Park with a move to the London Stadium edging closer. If the Colombian completes a move, Unai Emery will be forced into signing a new striker as cover for Watkins next season.

The Englishman has reached near-immortal status after his last-gasp winner in the EUROs semi-final against The Netherlands. Abraham could prove to be a useful alternative to the 28-year-old, despite them not being exactly like-for-like in their facets.

The Roma forward featured for the Villans in the Championship and earned cult-hero status in that spell so a return would be welcomed by supporters.

With Duran set to depart for close to £40m, if the Englishman comes in from Serie A this summer, it would represent positive business.
