“Very important win, We showed quality but we’re not safe” – Steve Cooper praises Nott Forest players for Southampton victory but says Reds are not yet safe

Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper says they cannot let up after their 4-3 win against Southampton.

The result moves Forest out of the bottom three.

Cooper said: “It was a very important win. There was so much that went on in the game but I am really pleased with some of the quality we showed in attack, creating chances and scoring but we didn’t cover ourselves in glory with the goals we conceded.

“I liked how we stuck together. It was that night wasn’t it? A wet night, night game and you’ve seen it so many times over the years with what was on the game so it was always going to be a rollercoaster. I’m really pleased with win and the spirit we showed throughout the game. We stood tall.

“Brentford was a really tough defeat and at the time I thought it was going to be an age [until the next game]. There was a bit of a hangover and we sort of needed a day off after returning to training to put it behind us and when they came back I saw the spirit come back.

The guys are showing some real togetherness and quality in the goals we are scoring and we are not letting mistakes get us down too much and we gave whatever it took to get over the line.

“We are not safe. We could be far from safe. It’s a good step today but that’s all it is. Nobody will be getting carried away. We have got work to do. You’ve seen it in the three games today and there will be more of that coming I am sure. It’ll be straight back to work and get going again.”
