Mike Tresor looks likely to be given a second-chance at Burnley this season, after the Belgian failed to finalise a move away from the club in the summer transfer window.

The 25-year-old reportedly had moves to Nice and Ajax fall through over the summer, with the Clarets said to be demanding too much in financial remuneration to allow a deal to go through. As a result, the player has been in the bad books at Turf Moor ever since, and is yet to feature for the Lancashire outfit in the current campaign, as Scott Parker looks to lead his side towards an immediate return to the Premier League.

But with rumours circulating of the forward earning a recall to first-team matters in the coming weeks, we spoke to Football League World’s Burnley fan pundit Nathan Rogers about the thoughts from the terraces of their star being brought back into the fold.

Foot Mercato reported that talks of a loan move to Nice were ruminating at the end of last month, only for journalist Sacha Tavolieri to state that the two clubs were disagreeing over the proposed terms, with Burnley not budging over financial issues to do with the deal, with the same situation occurring around a further proposed move to Ajax.

Understandably, Tresor was aggrieved about his personal situation, and looked to be at loggerheads with the club, only for Parker’s latest revelation hinting at a recall to the side now he has returned from an injury layoff. With the troubles of the past seemingly put behind him, Rogers believes the Belgian’s return to action at Turf Moor can work out well for all parties.

The Clarets fan told FLW: “I think the murmurings around Mike Tresor being reintegrated into the squad is positive news all round.

“I thought it looked dead and buried over the summer when his move broke down and he couldn’t reintegrate back into the squad, he didn’t report for pre-season and I think there was a lot of bad feeling from him towards the club.

“It was not necessarily towards Scott Parker and the coaching staff, but more between him and the club, and I understand that Vincent Kompany had signed him on the premise that he would get a certain amount of game time and be a key player.

“It never quite happened for him, and I think he was unhappy about that, so he had a bit of a social media sulk where he was posting memes and clips about being unhappy, but over the last two weeks or so there are pictures emerging of him training and looking happy.

“Scott Parker has spoken in press conferences about how he is going to reintegrate him back into the squad, and he has had conversations with him.”

While the relationship between club and player may be irreparable, the best way to force a move away will be for Tresor to perform to his best ahead of the January transfer window, and allow Burnley to recoup some of the eight-figure fee they paid for him earlier this year.

That is a sentiment that Rogers shares, with the belief that the Belgian won’t be a Burnley player this time next year.

He added: “I think if we can get a player of Mike Tresor’s quality playing with a smile on his face in the Championship for Burnley, up until at least January, I don’t think it will do us any harm whatsoever.

“To be honest, I think his long-term future at the club is over – I think he will be done by January, and if not definitely by the summer – however if he is here, wants to have a go and get his name out there, then I think it will only benefit us.

“He is a quality player; he has a lot of talent and his ability is there to see, he has just not really had the chance at Burnley to show us what he has got.

“But from a financial point of view, I think the club will be looking to move him on as soon as January, and if he doesn’t go in January I definitely think he will be gone by the summer.”
