HUDDERSFIELD Town captain and legend Jonathan Hogg has acknowledged that he could not have envisaged playing for any other club in his career – after signing a new one-year deal with the Terriers.

Out of contract with the club at the end of this month, the Teessider had been in talks to extend his epic stint at the John Smith’s Stadium, with new head coach Michael Duff having been keen to retain the talismanic skipper, who missed the closing weeks of last term following shoulder surgery.

Despite that untimely late-season injury issue, Hogg still featured 35 times last term and has now penned fresh terms.

The midfield enforcer – who turns 36 in December – joined Town in the summer of 2013 from Watford and has been a stalwart during some of the most momentous times in the club’s history. On committing to the club for a 12th successive campaign, Hogg said:

“I had no doubt at all in my mind about extending my contract here.

“I’ve said it before, but this is my club and I couldn’t picture myself playing anywhere else now.

“Having been here over a decade, I know Town in good times and bad, and while the past couple of seasons haven’t gone to plan, I’m determined to play my part in helping to put that right in whatever way I can.

“Speaking to both Mark (Cartwright – CEO) and Michael about their plans for the future, that’s something I want to be part of.

“Whenever I’m called on, I will continue to give everything I have for Huddersfield Town, just as I have since the day I arrived almost 11 years ago.”

Duff made it his business to speak to Hogg soon after being appointed as Town chief – to not only gauge his thoughts about his own future, but canvass his opinions following a very tough 2023-24 campaign which ended in relegation and made reference to that fact in his opening press conference.

He also believes that Hogg, despite being in the winter of his career, has a huge part to play next season.

On Hogg sticking around for another year, Duff commented: “I’m extremely pleased to have Jonathan as part of our group next season, he’s been part of our plans in every conversation we’ve held since joining the club.

“I was lucky enough to play at a good level until my late thirties, so I know the impact and difference that can be made through experience and leadership. Both on and off the pitch, Hoggy still has a huge part to play.”

“Echoing the sentiments of Duff regarding the longevity and character of Hogg – and embodying everything good about the playing side of the club – chief executive officer Cartwright continued: “Jonathan is the embodiment of the spirit and professionalism we want to see across the squad, and his influence is priceless both on and off the field.

“A natural leader who is fiercely passionate about his club, we are delighted to keep him with us and have him contribute to the vision and standards we want to set next season across not only the first team, but academy, too.”
