Norwich City manager David Wagner has heaped praise on Leeds United after the Whites secured a fifth win in a row on Wednesday night thanks to Patrick Bamford’s first-half header at Elland Road.
Having secured four wins in a row against Birmingham, Peterborough, Cardiff and Preston – Leeds came into the game expected to beat Wagner’s Norwich, who have endured a bit of an up and down season.
Leeds had to ride their luck at times with Illan Meslier making a mistake or two in the first half. But the decisive moment came when Dan James – who was subbed off at half-time – found Bamford to score.
A fourth goal in five games for the one-time England star, who seems to have rediscovered his touch. A perfect header, finding the far corner – proving Daniel Farke was right to keep the striker in the side.
Speaking after the match as per Leeds Live, Norwich boss Wagner spoke very highly of Leeds after watching Leeds secure three points and a clean sheet against his side. Elland Road remains a fortress.
“Frustrating result. Gave Leeds a real game. Competitive. Games like this are decided by small, margins. Saw it in the West Brom game. We were not ruthless and this is why we lost it. Leeds are a top team.
“Super offensive. Congratulations to them on the win. Final punch in the box was missing. A very good game. Leeds away is never easy. They are the best in the league when it comes to playing at home. Their home record is superb,” Wagner said, as quoted by Leeds Live.
Another huge win for Leeds. A victory that sees Leeds close the gap on Ipswich and Southampton. Now, just two points behind second-placed Ipswich – but, the Tractor Boys obviously have a game in hand.
It was a game that Leeds needed to win, to keep that pressure on. Southampton are flying and Ipswich look like they are overcoming their tricky bit of form. It is going to be fine margins, during the run in.
