Leeds United’s squad will be radically different next season with an astonishing 20 players potentially leaving this summer. 

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, former Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson, who is still well-connected at his former club, revealed it’s going to be a “difficult” summer for Daniel Farke as he looks to reshape his squad and challenge for promotion again next season.

The Whites were beaten 1-0 by Southampton in the Championship play-off final as they missed out on securing an immediate return to the Premier League.

Sources have told Football Insider up to 20 players could leave Elland Road this summer as a number of players’ contracts are coming to an end, while key first-teamers are either set to push for transfers or could be sold to raise much-needed funds.

Football Insider revealed on 26 May that Leeds must recoup an astonishing £150million in player sales following their promotion failure due to the amount owed in unpaid transfer fees.

Leeds United squad to be very different next season

Robinson expects there to be plenty of transfer activity at the West Yorkshire club over the coming weeks as they look to balance the books ahead of next season.

“There have been whispers at least 20 players could leave Elland Road this summer,” he told Football Insider. 

“You look at the likes of Cody Drameh, Stuart Dallas is obviously going to be moving to the coaching staff.

“Contracts and loan deals are coming to an end for Poveda, Byram, Rodon, Shackleton, Anthony, Roberts, Ayling and Cooper.

“It’s going to be a really key summer for Leeds to rebuild. The first thing is they are going to have to cut their cloth accordingly.

“But they are going to have to take stock of what they are going to lose, how much they are going to bring into the club, what they can get for the players out on loan.

“It’s about seeing what’s going to be going out before you know what’s going to be coming in.

“It’s hard to say what positions they are going to need because you don’t know what players are going to be around.

“It’s going to be a very difficult summer for Daniel Farke balancing the squad. There are going to be a lot of outgoings and incomings.

“I think it’s going to be a very different squad that starts next season to the one we’re seeing at the moment.

“The recruitment is going to have to be very clever to replace the players they lose.”
