“The rules are a problem, It’s like we’ve made a cartel for the top teams and let everyone else battle for seventh place”- Alan Pardew hits out at English FA over PSR rules as Forest are hit with Four points deduction

Alan Pardew says the PSR points deductions to Everton and Nottingham Forest is a complete “farce”.

Forest have been docked four points after being found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules.

Everton are also facing a second points rap in the coming days, which could change the entire complexion of the league table.

Told of the imminent announcements while live on talkSPORT , Pardew said: “Who knows what will happen?

“It’s a bit of a farce with the whole finance window. The losses you’re meant to accrue, it’s not really working.

“I know they’ve got a new foreman they’re going to introduce, and hopefully that’ll happen shortly.

“Leicester City are second in the Championship but have all sorts of problems with financial fair play.

“Whatever happens to them, something is coming up for them – or rather down. We don’t want all this other nonsense.

“The rules are a problem, I think. I have no bias, but it’s like we’ve made a cartel for the top teams and let everyone else battle for seventh place.”

There is no problem having rules in place to stop teams spending well beyond their means. After all, we live in a day and age in which there has been serious talk of a Saudi club offering £200million to Liverpool for Mohamed Salah.

The January window appeared to be a turning point for Premier League clubs in which they realised they can no longer just throw money left, right and centre.

At the same time, these particular PSR rules Everton and Forest were found to have breached are rather farcical. To name just one such problem, the losses you can report have not climbed in line with inflation.

Indeed, the Premier League will change the rules this summer to move it more in line with UEFA’s existing guidelines. That is the league’s way of admitting the current regulations are not fit for purpose.

And yet Everton will still likely be docked points. The sooner these PSR regulations are overhauled, the better.
