“Sack the board, the fans aren’t happy despite staying up, changes are needed at the top”-Rio Ferdinand says things needs to change at Everton as he agrees with Fans call to sack club’s board

Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has highlighted the need for change at Everton, despite the club securing their Premier League status on Sunday.

The Toffees defeated Bournemouth 1-0 at Goodison Park, narrowly avoiding the drop for the second consecutive season.

Despite this, Everton manager Sean Dyche and supporters were quick to point out that big changes are needed at the club.

After celebrating their victory over the Cherries, chants of ‘sack the board’ and ‘get out of our club’ were heard around Goodison.

Indeed, the fans’ anger is directed at the Everton hierarchy, namely: majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri, club chairman Bill Kenwright and CEO Denise Barrett-Baxendale.

This comes with Everton ‘close’ to securing funding from MSP Sports Capital, who have signed an exclusivity agreement with Moshiri over a potential minority investment.

Some reports have suggested that MSP will demand boardroom changes, so, protesting Evertonians may get their wish. An Everton supporter’s group – All Together Now – released a statement on Monday demanding ‘immediate’ change at board level.

As reported by Sky Sports News, they wrote: “The Majority of fans have shown once again that they will not tolerate another minute of governance under this board.

“Given the clear show of unity from the whole ground at full time, this should be the end of the road.

“We implore the owner to communicate the actions he is looking to take that will begin the process of high-level change.

“This can then prove to be the first step towards repairing the fractured relationship between the fans and the club.

“This must be done immediately. We as fans, custodians, and as the beating heart of this football club demand change, and we demand it – now!”

Ferdinand has since echoed the sentiments from All Together Now’s statement. Speaking on FIVE, he said: “[Everton] is a club that is in disarray, from the top down to the bottom.”

“The recruitment of some of the players in that squad, you’re left scratching your head a little bit, but at the top, the fans aren’t happy.

“They stayed up and they’re still shouting ‘sack the board’.

“You can see there’s a toxic environment there that needs sorting out. Changes are needed at the top.

“I think Dyche has got a difficult job there, a big job. But, I think it is still a great job because Everton are a big football club with a great fan base.

“He needs the full backing of the board and the recruitment team to be on point this year.”
