REVEALED: Leeds United now in advanced talks to appoint new manager, deal only being held-up by EFL as club await official approval of 49ers takeover
Leeds are in advanced talks with Daniel Farke to become the club new manager, sources have told Football Insider.
The Yorkshire giants are confident of appointing the German as Sam Allardyce’s replacement as they close in on a full agreement.
The deal is all but done but has been held up as Leeds chiefs await for the Football League to ratify the takeover of the club by 49ers Enterprises.
The 46-year-old, who won the Championship twice with Norwich City, had been on a shortlist with Scott Parker and Patrick Vieira.
Leeds interviewed all three managers but Farke has emerged as the number one choice. United have set their sights on a manager with experience of both the Premier League and Championship as they look to make an instant return to the top flight.
Following the end of his four-year spell at Norwich in November 2021, Farke had a brief spell with Russian side Krasnodar, which he curtailed because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The German then became manager of Borussia Monchengladbach last season but that was cut short when he was sacked after finishing tenth in the Bundesliga.
Leeds have been working against the clock to get a manager deal done ahead of the return to pre-season training.
The Whites’ first warm-up game is currently scheduled for 12 July against Man United in Norway. Leeds finished 19th in the Premier League last term and were ultimately relegated to the Championship for the 2023-24 season.
Jesse Marsch and Javi Gracia were both sacked by the club’s hierarchy – while Allardyce could not earn a long-term contract with a four-game stint in the hot seat.
The Yorkshire giants are on course to be under new ownership after American group 49ers Enterprises agreed a full takeover of the Championship club earlier this month.
In buying out Andrea Radrizzani, they have increased their holding in Leeds from 44 per cent to 100 per cent.
