REPORT: Phil Hay gives update on Sam Byran as Daniel Farke confirms player suffered hamstring injury in victory over Blackburn, gives timeline of when player is expected to be out for Leeds

Leeds United have been dealt a fresh injury blow after Sam Byram picked up a hamstring issue in the win over Blackburn, according to Phil Hay.

Writing on his personal Twitter account (9 December), the reliable journalist reports that he felt pain in his hamstring before being substituted and replaced by Djed Spence.

And after the game Daniel Farke confirmed that he is now likely to miss the two games this week against Sunderland and Coventry because of it.

Farke on Byram – he felt pain in his hamstring again. “It could be that he’s out for this week but we’ll assess him. There’s a concern about him for the next two games at least.”

It’s a major blow for Leeds and for Farke, with the Whites squad finally getting to a place where it seemed to be getting to full strength.

Full-back seems to be a really big issue at the moment too with Junior Firpo, Luke Ayling and now Byram all picking up injuries a few days apart from each other.

Thankfully Spence is fit again so he could come into the side, while Farke has previously used Jamie Shackleton at left-back too which means we have options but none of them are natural.

It also means that young Archie Gray may be prevented from getting a rest any time soon which obviously isn’t good, but the squad needs to dig in and really give it everything over the next few weeks before the huge clash with Ipswich just before Christmas.

Farke has found solutions before and proven to be good at it, but hopefully this will be easy enough to deal with and not a long-term problem.
