REPORT: Nottingham Forest seriously considering move to sign Tottenham defender after Niakhate injury, player open to move
Nottingham Forest are still on the lookout for new signings and Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez is the latest to be linked. The Reds have added just two new signings to their ranks so far this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, the Reds like Sanchez and could make a move. It was claimed earlier this month that the player was going to Spartak Moscow for £13 million; although the player isn’t keen.
Sanchez had been holding out for Galatasaray to come forward and firm up their interest. Now, Forest might offer the Colombian defender the chance to remain in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old arrived at Tottenham from Ajax in 2017. He’s often been considered a first-team regular in North London, making 205 appearances for Spurs since arriving at the club.
Steve Cooper side was looking stacked in defence for 2023/24 until Moussa Niakhate dislocated his elbow. Now, Forest could move to bolster their squad with Sanchez before the season starts.
Sanchez currently earns £67,000-a-week at Tottenham. As a result, he’s a signing that probably would be affordable for the Reds and they’re probably wise to monitor the player.
This is an intriguing one from a Forest perspective. Sanchez is being allowed to leave Tottenham this month and if he’s valued at £13 million, he might not prove to be a bad signing.
The player has been a regular in the Tottenham team. He helped them reach a Champions League Final back in 2019 and ultimately, he’d be an upgrade on some of the options in the Forest squad.
Sanchez is only being monitored at this stage. Forest are likely to sign a replacement for Niakhate though and it will be interesting to see where the 54-cap Colombian ends up ahead of the new season.
Yes, Sanchez can sometimes be a bit of a liability defensively but people said the same thing about Serge Aurier when he was added.
The defender played 73 matches alongside the Forest star. They achieved a points per game total of 1.99 and ultimately, they appeared to play well together.
Signing a proven Premier League defender for £13 million isn’t to be sniffed at and Forest will hope they can tempt Sanchez in the coming weeks.
