Report: Newcastle reignite interest to sign Tottenham star on a free this summer as Magpies make first contact after Player saw deadline day move to St James Park scuppered by Spurs last summer

Back at the start of the season, reports from the Italian media claimed that Newcastle United were interested in signing Lucas Moura from Tottenham Hotspur.

It had been said that the attacker was not part of Antonio Conte’s plans for the season, and that would give the Magpies a chance to land him cheaply. The Toon would even make a deadline day bid for the Brazilian although that offer was swiftly rejected by Spurs.

Moura was barely used by Tottenham this season, and now with the end of his contract, Newcastle are interested again, according to Tornadoes.

The outlet writes that representatives from the Premier League side recently contacted the player.

Tottenham, who have no intention of extending his contract, reportedly left him ‘free’ to analyse the offers that will show up on his table.

Torcedores’ story is mostly about Flamengo’s interest in Moura. The problem for the Brazilian side is that the player favours his stay in Europe and is not keen on going to his home country right now.

That gives Newcastle an advantage, although they are said to have the competition from Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers as well as a host of Italian Serie A clubs. Eddie Howe’s side are still expected to be in the driving seat for the player’s signature though as they would be able to offer European club football to the tricky winger.
