According to The Telegraph, Newcastle United are interested in signing Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Lavia is among the midfielders Newcastle are looking at potentially bringing to St. James’ Park in the summer of 2023.

The Magpies will play in the UEFA Champions League next season after finishing in the Premier League top four this campaign. Southampton will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League.

Newcastle United could now be able to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

Given that the Saints will play in the Championship next season, it is really hard to see them turn down offers for any of their star players.

Lavia himself want to leave and join Newcastle especially given the uncertainty about how long the Saints will be in the Championship.

Newcastle are going places under head coach Eddie Howe and under the ownership of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment (PIF).

Then Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl described the 19-year-old defensive midfielder as “an extremely talented young player” on the club’s official website in July 2022.

Lavia’s performances for the Saints this season have justified that. The teenager made 26 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Saints this season and scored one goal in those games.

The defensive midfielder also gave one assist in three Carabao Cup matches and played twice in the FA Cup for Southampton this campaign.
