“Really annoyed me, I was disappointed, They didn’t bring any energy, “- BBC pundit Shaun Derry singles out three Leeds players for criticism after disappointing displays in West Ham loss

Shaun Derry has claimed that the Leeds United substitutes really annoyed him during the loss to West Ham, and suggested that he was really disappointed by Willy Gnonto , Brendan Aaronson and Crysensio Summerville.

Derry was speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the full-time whistle at the London Stadium. The only positive for Leeds fans at this stage is that they have so little hope going into the final day.

The inevitable feels as though it is about to happen. It was a shameful performance on a day which meant so much to Leeds’ fortunes.

It certainly felt as though the game started to go wrong the moment Rodrigo put Leeds in front in the first-half. Patrick Bamford came off shortly after with an injury. And West Ham started to take control of the contest.

During the game, Sam Allardyce brought on Willy Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville, Brenden Aaronson, Marc Roca and Sam Greenwood. However, none of the quintet had any sort of positive impact on the game.

Certainly, Derry felt that some of the blame for the awful showing in the capital needs to be directed at those who came off the bench.

“What really annoyed me today was the impact of the subs,” he told BBC Radio Leeds. “I didn’t see the substitutes really chewing to get on the pitch this afternoon. ‘Get me on gaffer, I really want to make a big difference here’. Because it’s not just a team of 11, it’s a squad of 21, 22.

“And that’s what’s let me down watching Leeds United this afternoon. I was really disappointed with Gnonto. Summerville and Aaronson when they came in didn’t bring the energy that was required.”

In fairness to Gnonto, Leeds probably would have been relegated a long time ago were it not for him. His form in the middle part of the season will be remembered as one of the only positives.

The Italian has been off the boil for some time. And he was really disappointing when he came on against West Ham.

Summerville and Aaronson tried. But the Dutchman squandered a brilliant opening when played through on goal. And Aaronson just does not make a major impact anymore.

By the time Roca and Greenwood came on, the writing appeared to be on the wall. Ultimately, Leeds’ entire squad appears to have absolutely no confidence.

It is bizarre to think that staying up is still possible, because right now, Leeds are falling apart.
