The South Carolina women’s basketball team is set to celebrate Senior Day this Sunday, March 23, 2025, honoring five players who have significantly contributed to the program’s success. The ceremony will take place at Colonial Life Arena before their game against Kentucky, with festivities commencing at approximately 1:40 p.m.
Among the honorees is Raven Johnson, a standout guard whose journey epitomizes resilience and excellence. Joining her in the celebration are teammates Bree Hall and Sania Feagin, all members of the 2021 signing class. Additionally, Te-Hina Paopao and Sakima Walker, who returned for an extra COVID year after participating in last season’s Senior Day, will also be recognized.
Raven Johnson: A Journey of Resilience and Triumph
Raven Johnson arrived at South Carolina as a highly touted recruit, ranked as the No. 1 point guard and No. 2 overall player in the Class of 2021. Her high school career at Westlake High School in Atlanta was decorated with accolades, including being named Naismith Player of the Year and WBCA Player of the Year as a senior, during which she averaged 15.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She also earned the title of Miss Georgia Basketball in both her junior and senior years.
Johnson’s collegiate journey began with adversity. In her second game as a freshman, she suffered a season-ending knee injury. Demonstrating remarkable resilience, she returned to play a pivotal role in the Gamecocks’ success. In the 2022-2023 season, Johnson became a key contributor off the bench, averaging 4.2 points, 3.4 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game, earning a spot on the SEC All-Freshman Team.
The following season, Johnson’s impact grew substantially. Starting 35 of 37 games, she averaged 8.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, shooting an impressive 35% from three-point range. Her defensive prowess was also notable, leading to her selection to the SEC All-Defensive Team in 2025.
Bree Hall and Sania Feagin: Pillars of Strength
Bree Hall and Sania Feagin, alongside Johnson, have been integral to South Carolina’s dominance. Their tenure includes appearances in every NCAA Final Four during their careers, with national championships in 2022 and 2024. The trio has also contributed to three consecutive SEC regular-season titles and two SEC Tournament championships.
Te-Hina Paopao and Sakima Walker: Celebrating Dedication
Te-Hina Paopao and Sakima Walker, who previously participated in Senior Day ceremonies, chose to utilize their extra year of eligibility granted due to COVID-19 disruptions. Their decision to return underscores their commitment to the program and their desire to further contribute to the team’s legacy.
Senior Day Festivities and Fan Engagement
The Senior Day ceremony is scheduled to begin at approximately 1:40 p.m., ahead of the 2 p.m. tip-off against Kentucky. Fans attending the game should be aware of traffic advisories, including road closures around Colonial Life Arena. Greene Street will be closed from Park to Lincoln, and Lincoln Street will be closed from Devine to Greene. Single-game parking in lots immediately surrounding the arena will be available at $20 per car, as mandated by the university. Doors to the arena will open at 12:30 p.m., with the Fast Break Pass entrance opening at noon. The first 1,500 fans will receive a commemorative Senior Day t-shirt (XL sizes only), adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
A Legacy of Excellence
The contributions of these five seniors have solidified South Carolina’s status as a powerhouse in women’s college basketball. Their dedication, resilience, and excellence have not only led to team accolades but have also set a standard for future generations of Gamecocks.
