“Players like Tielemans, that didn’t want to be there, should have been sold”- Simon Jordan tells Leicester chairman where he went wrong as he says Foxes will bounce back to PL next season
Simon Jordan has laid bare the mistakes made by Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha on the road to relegation.
City dropped to the Championship last week despite victory over West Ham, as rivals Everton also picked up three points against Bournemouth. It means Leicester will play in the Championship for the first time since the 2013-14 season.
Speaking on talkSPORT about where the Leicester ownership went wrong, Jordan spoke about the lack of investment in past transfer windows, while making a prediction about how the club will fare in the Championship next season.
“I think there’s not been a lot gone wrong with the ownership,” Jordan said. “I think the management structure that they put in place, with Brendan Rodgers being disenfranchised, was something they should have dealt with earlier.
“But I think the fundamental thing is that your owner didn’t want to put any more into the club. He wanted to recoup money.
“I was listening to stories last year about ‘ignore the fact we’re not buying players, we spent £100million on training facilities, we’re going to make sure we’ve got structure behind the structure to build our youth development policies’ – which is great, but part and parcel of what you should do.
“The fact of the matter is your team needed a refresh and it needed to have proper trading during the summer. Players like Tielemans, that didn’t want to be there, should have been sold. They should have been taken out and better players brought in.
“I think we’ll see a division next year where Leicester and Leeds bounce straight back. I really do. I don’t think there’s chaos, economically, in either one of those clubs.”
