OPINION: It’s time for Forest to turn full attention to loan signing of former Man City winger with Reyna now looking difficult as Reds failure to close deal see Marseille hijack move for player

Nottingham Forest should now turn their attention on the signing of Carlos Forbs from Ajax after falling behind in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Gio Reyna.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported in Germany that the Tricky Trees had reached a total verbal agreement with the USA international for a move, and they were hard at work trying to get a deal done.

However, the Reds inability to close the deal could now prove to be a fatal as it appears they aren’t the only ones after him, with Marseille now also doing their best to get a deal over the line.

The Ligue 1 side have moved ahead of the English side in the race to sign the player and are now in ‘advanced negotiation’ with Dortmund.

This should prompt Forest to turn their attention to focus on Former Man City and Ajax winger Carlos Forbs who have also emerged as a top target for Nuno Espirito’s side.

Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano had on Tuesday evening confirmed that the Tricky Tees are in talks over a loan move for the pacey winger.

Forest signing of Reyna is not set to have an impact on their pursuit of Forbs though with the club reportedly keen to bring both attackers to the City Ground this January as Nuno looking to bolster his attacking ranks.

However, with a deal for Reyna now looking very difficult, it would be in the club’s best interests to turn their attention to sealing a move for Forbs as they try to avoid losing both players this January.

The 19-year-old – who honed his skills as a youngster at Sporting Lisbon’s academy – secured a switch to the Dutch giants in the summer for around £10m from Manchester City.

Forbs caught the eye of Ajax with a goal-laden season for the Citizens’ Under-23s side, scoring 21 times in 24 Premier League 2 appearances last campaign.

Forbs has appeared in 16 Eredivisie matches this term – starting only six of those – scoring once and providing three assists in a total of 613 minutes of league action.
