Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has ruled out Pol Valentin leaving for Maccabi Tel Aviv, as per BBC journalist Rob Staton on X.

Sheffield Wednesday’s wing-back has been linked with a move to the Israeli club with The Star reporting that their interest in him in ‘genuine’. However, his current head coach doesn’t want to let him go.

Valentin, 27, made the move to England last year to join the Owls following their promotion from League One. He has since made 48 appearances for the South Yorkshire outfit in all competitions, eight of which have come this season already, and he has chipped in with a single goal.

Rohl has addressed speculation linking him with a departure from Hillsborough and has said, as per reporter Staton on X: “No chance, He is part of my squad. We need the competition at the right full back position. That’s for me, no. No question mark about that.”

His contract expires at the end of the campaign though and they risk losing him for free in June 2025 if they don’t cash in on him now or in January, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension anytime soon. However, as Rohl alluded to, they have no plans to let him go at the moment and they have a few months still ahead of them to address his long-term situation.

Valentin is a useful option for Sheffield Wednesday to have in their squad and provides useful competition and depth to the likes of Yan Valery and Liam Palmer.

The Spaniard started his career in his native country with spells at Gimnastic, Figueres, Pobla Mafumet, Valencia B and Fuenlabrada. Sporting Gijon came calling in 2022 and he spent 12 months with the Segunda Division B outfit before leaving his comfort zone for the first time to move to England.

It was a tough first-half of last term for the Owls under former manager Xisco Munoz and they looked well on their way to relegation to League One. Rohl came in and managed to keep them up against the odds and Valentin started to find his feet under the German.

Sheffield Wednesday haven’t won in their last four league outings of this season and will be hoping they aren’t in for another year of struggle.

The Owls won 1-0 away at Blackpool in the Carabao Cup last night with defender Di’Shon Bernard scoring their goal. They are now in the fourth round having also seen off Hull City and Grimsby Town earlier in the competition.
