“Just stop it, it is never going to work, I have never seen it work”- Gary Neville says Steve Cooper needs to stop doing one thing that is causing instability at Nottingham Forest this season
Former Man Utd full-back Gary Neville believes Nottingham Forest need to choose a regular first-choice goalkeeper
Gary Neville believes Steve Cooper’s decision to change goalkeepers is “never going to work” after Matt Turner’s mistake against Tottenham on Friday.
Nottingham Forest signed two goalkeepers in the summer transfer window. Matt Turner arrived from Arsenal while Odysseas Vlachodimos joined from Benfica.
Turner was initially the Reds’ first-choice shot-stopper before Vlachodimos was given a run of games. However, Cooper has now turned back to the American for recent fixtures against Wolves and Spurs.
But the 29-year-old was at fault for Tottenham’s second goal on Friday after a stray clearance led to Dejan Kulusevski’s strike. And Manchester United and England legend Neville has shared his doubts over the switching of keepers.
“You are never going to get stability and a comfortable position if you have got two goalkeepers going back and forth and there is a question between them, just stop it – it is never going to work. I have never seen it work.”- he told Sky Sports.
Forest have won just one of their last 13 matches after Friday’s 2-0 defeat at home to Tottenham. The Reds are next in action on Saturday, December 23 against Bournemouth at the City Ground.
