“I’ve played my little part but we are a big club & we shouldn’t be here, there’s a massive amount of change needed”- Sean Dyche sends message to Everton hierarchy as he calls for change at club after PL survival

Everton avoided relegation by beating Bournemouth 1-0 in their final game. They came into the game needing a win to ensure their Premier League survival

Manager Sean Dyche insisted  there is still ‘a lot of work to be done’ at the club

Sean Dyche insisted survival must be a wake-up call for Everton after Abdoulaye Doucoure’s stunning volley extended the club’s 69-year stay in the top flight — and sent Leicester and Leeds down.

Dyche’s side had to beat Bournemouth to guarantee survival and in the 57th minute the Mali midfielder broke the deadlock and tension at Goodison Park with a thumping strike to rapturous celebrations, with fireworks being set off outside the ground.

The goal sealed Leicester’s fate just seven years after they were champions, despite Sunday’s 2-1 win over West Ham, while Leeds went down with a whimper, thrashed 4-1 by Tottenham and booed off at home.

After Everton fans had invaded the pitch at full time to embrace their heroes, Dyche warned that the pain was not over.

It’s a horrible day for all concerned,’ he said.

‘There is no joy in it for me, other than getting the job done. I came in here to change a mentality and there have been signs of that. There is still more to go. I said to the players: “We shouldn’t be here. Enjoy this today but it has got to change”.

Sean Dyche has insisted there is ‘a lot of work to be done’ despite the Toffees’ staying up

‘There is no point in sitting on it and saying: “Look how great we are!” because it is not like that. There is loads to change here and a lot of work to be done, but it was a big step to secure it. Work on next season started the day I got in here.

I never thought this was an easy fix because it is not, far from it. There is a massive amount of work to be done. The thing I’ve learned about Everton is the fans have been amazing, they want the club to be in the top end of the market but the club currently is not at the top end.

“It’s a big club, make no mistake. Big history, big club but we are not performing like a big club. We have to find a way of changing that. This is two seasons now. I’ve played my little part but there is massive amount of change to build to a new dawn, a new future, a bigger future if you like.
