“It’s a Burnley logo mate ,We worship at the church of Turf Moor, Jimmy Mcllroy Is our saviour, Bene & Hot is our elixir, We won the league at Ewood”- Burnley co-owner JJ Watt puts social media user in his place after question over Burnley hat

Former NFL player JJ Watt corrected a fan who did not realise he was wearing a hat with the Burnley FC logo.

JJ Watt became a minority owner of Burnley in 2023 and when a social media user made a mistake about the club the former NFL player made sure to put them straight.

The 34-year-old was a guest on the Pat McAfee show, and an X user took a screenshot of the ex-defensive end on the program and posted it to the social media platform. He captioned the post: “What’s up with the all seeing eye on your hat? I’ve always liked you but this is concerning.”

Clearly unfamiliar with the Premier League team, Watt, who is one of the club’s minority owners, put the fan straight in an emphatic manner. “It’s a Burnley logo mate. Not an eye in sight,” the former Houston Texans player wrote. “Established 1882. We worship at the church of Turf Moor.

“Jimmy McIlroy is our savior. Our cloaks are Claret & Blue. Bene & Hot is our elixir. We won the league at Ewood. Your concern is concerning.”

Fans took to the comments and were surprised by the opinion the fan expressed about Watt’s choice of headwear. “How anyone could see an eye on that hat is…concerning,” one said.

Another posted: “Did I just see Houston legend and Wisconsin native JJ Watt use “mate”? Burnley fans are gonna love this.

Meanwhile, this fan said: “Me trying to even see how that looks like an eye.

In May 2023 Watt and his wife Kealia Watt, a former USWNT player, announced they had invested in Burnley.

The couple have always had an interest in English football, with JJ having been a fan of Chelsea and Kealia of Arsenal. But after they visited the town of Burnley and the opportunity to invest came up, they did not hesitate. “We went to Burnley, visited the town and we just fell in love,” the former footballer said. “It’s such an incredible place.

Their club was promoted back to the Premier League this season but Vincent Kompany’s men are languishing in 19th place. They are currently five points from safety after a 1-1 draw against Luton Town on January 12. Their season gets tougher as three of Burnley’s next four games are against the league’s top three teams – Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal.
