“It seems now that he is going to have a big opportunity next season, Gary and the club are very keen on him, He’s done well over in Spain”- Journalist says £4.5m Wolves star is likely to return to club this summer with Gary O’Neil reportedly keen on bringing player back to Molineux
Wolves fans are hoping to see a very positive summer window this time around, after what went down just under a year ago.
The club ran into financial difficulty in 2023 and were required to offload a number of high-profile players to balance the books.
Wanderers did bring a few players in, but the club were very restricted with what they could do, and couldn’t spend until money was brought in. It is expected that, while Wolves could make one or two more big sales this summer, there will be more freedom to bring in players.
It is very possible that Wolves could look to make defensive reinforcements, with Craig Dawson not getting any younger. But there’s one player currently out on loan who might well be getting a chance next season…
Gary O’Neil really likes Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera, he could get chance next season
Yerson Mosquera has been something of a forgotten man at Wolves. He signed for the club in the summer of 2021 from Atletico Nacional for around £4.5 million, and there was real positivity about his signing, with Wolves officials feeling they’d landed a potential star of the future.
However, he suffered a serious hamstring injury on his competitive debut for the club, preventing him from playing again in his first season.
Midway through his second season, he joined MLS club FC Cincinnati, for whom he did really well. Mosquera is now on loan at Villarreal and has caught the eye early doors, leading to talk that he could well become an option for Wolves again next season.
Journalist Liam Keen was speaking about what Wolves could be getting up to this summer regarding incoming and outgoings. And he shared how O’Neil feels about Mosquera.
He said (via Shots TV): “Gary’s very keen on him. The club are very keen on him. He’s done well over in Spain which is a massive step up from his loan in America.
“It seems now that Yerson Mosquera is going to have a big opportunity next season.
“Now obviously there could be departures for any of those positions. But if there isn’t and Mosquera comes in, arguably you don’t need to sign a centre-half.”
There’s a lot of football left to play this season and anything could happen, but it very much sounds as though Mosquera is on track for a return to Wolves’ first-team.
The Colombia international had a fantastic spell out in the States which helped him get back playing regularly again after a frustrating period out injured.
He has now gone to a harder league and caught the eye, and seemingly Gary O’Neil likes what he sees from afar.
It would be amazing if Mosquera did come back to Wolves and establish himself as a regular in the starting XI. He obviously had a really unlucky start with his injury and by many accounts, he is a very likable character and popular figure at Compton Park.
