“I want to go out on loan, I am speaking to people and I am waiting to see what comes up, I want to play as high as I can”- Wolves midfielder confirms he is looking to leave Molineux on loan this January

Wolves midfielder Joe Hodge has admitted he would like to leave the club this month on loan, in order to get regular game time.

It has been a frustrating season so far for Hodge, who has only been able to make one appearance so far this campaign.

That came against Blackpool in the Carabao Cup, when he was forced off after 55 minutes with a hamstring injury.

That put Hodge on the sidelines for a few weeks, and the injury curse would strike again soon after for the Irish youngster.

Hodge required surgery for a shoulder injury, meaning more time away from the game, and he only recently returned to squad. He made the bench for the two games against Brentford and Everton, but he has yet to take to the field since returning.

It’s possible he may now do that in the shirt of a different team…

Joe Hodge says he would now like a loan move away from Wolves

It’s been a tough season for Hodge, because when he has been available to play, he’s got players in front of him who are proven and in really good form.

The likes of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes have been excellent this term, and Gary O’Neil also has the likes of Tommy Doyle and Boubacar Traore at his disposal.

Hodge knows his game time is likely to be limited if he stays put and so, he has not said he would like to go out on loan.

He said (Irish Examiner): “I need to get myself back on my feet as things have not fallen my way due to injuries.

“I want to go out on loan, I am speaking to people and I am waiting to see what comes up and what options I have and I want to play as high as I can.

“I definitely want to get out there as soon as soon as I can. Obviously I want to play football and hopefully something will happen.

So Hodge has made his intentions clear – and he deserves praise for wanting to get out there and play. Hodge has previously spoken about being open to a loan move, and now it sounds as though it’s something he very much wants. The 21-year-old also said that he has spoken to O’Neil about his situation.

It’s tough for him at the moment with four players ahead of him, plus Matheus Cunha and Pablo Sarabia are both able to operate as advanced midfielders.

He recognises that he’s not in the best situation and wants to do something about it.

Hopefully, he can get to a club and feature heavily. Whoever lands him will be getting a young player with quality and hunger.
