“He’s growing on me, the fans probably feel the same way, he puts in great energy and work ethic”- Former Leeds boss Neil Redfearn admits he was wrong about Whites star & player is now growing on him and fans after impressive Elland Road display vs Coventry

A comfortable 3-0 win at Elland Road saw Leeds United climb into fifth place in the Championship table and ease past a Coventry City side that caused Leeds problems last term.

Jayden Bogle scored his first goal for Leeds after Wilfried Gnonto had given Daniel Farke’s side the lead early on. Joel Piroe came off the bench and scored for a third time this season to seal a superb victory.

Leeds now have four wins from seven league games, but impressively have kept five clean sheets in that time. Only four Championship goals conceded by Farke’s men as focus is put on controlling matches.

There have been question marks over whether Leeds are showing enough in the final third but that was put to bed on Saturday as The Whites proved clinical in front of goal against Mark Robins’ struggling side. While the likes of Gnonto, Bogle and Piroe will take all the headlines thanks to their goals, it was another top display from USA star Brenden Aaronson as he continues his attempts to win back Leeds fans.

Aaronson struggled initially, scoring just one goal in 40 games. Then, he angered Leeds fans like the other seven that left using Victor Orta’s loan clause, jumping ship after relegation and going to Union Berlin. But he has returned and is still working hard to win fans over. He has made the perfect start, scoring two goals and showing he can effectively replace the loss of Georginio Rutter after his £40m Brighton transfer.

Former Leeds boss Redfearn told BBC Radio Leeds after the match that he’s starting to like Aaronson: “He’s growing on me, Aaronson. I like him. I probably made judgements of him in the Premier League.

“In this environment, he’s got something. He picks little pockets, great turn of pace, great energy and work ethic, gets his foot in and makes it easy for the two midfielders, the fans probably feel the same way.” Redfearn admitted on Aaronson.

Many Leeds fans suggested after the match that in fact, despite Aaronson not winning the limelight, it might have been his best outing since returning. He set Junior Firpo free for Gnonto’s goal on 15 minutes.

There is still a part of Aaronson’s game that needs work, and that of course is his physicality. The same old problem has lingered for Leeds star Aaronson this term, often getting dispossessed when on the ball.

That is even despite Aaronson putting on weight in muscle, according to Tony Dorigo. Things are going well while Leeds are winning but if form dips, players get blamed and Aaronson will be one of the first.
