“He’s a quality player but he’s not a fighter, he can’t play the way the manager wants”-Michail Antonio appears to criticise Scamacca as he delivers brutal verdict on Italian struggles under David Moyes

Michail Antonio has given a brutally honest verdict on West Ham teammate Gianluca Scamacca. The 24-year-old joined the Hammers in a £35million deal from Serie A side Sassuolo last summer. Scamacca has endured a difficult time since joining West Ham

Antonio claimed the Italian is ‘not a fighter’ in a recent podcast. Having scored regularly in the Europa Conference League, the Italian found it difficult to find the back of the net in the Premier League.

Scamacca has netted five times during the Hammers’ European campaign, but managed just three goals in the English top flight. Though, the Italy international has been out of action since April nursing a knee injury.

West Ham stalwart Antonio has recently claimed his teammate is ‘not a fighter’, but his struggles are down to Moyes’ way of playing.

“He is actually quality, he is a quality player,” Antonio said on the Filfthy Fellas YouTube Channel.

“The problem is, he can not play the way the manager wants to play.

“He needs a different type of manager who will let him play with players to come off him and stuff like that.

“You see that, the ball comes to him, and it sticks.

“But with David Moyes, you have to feed off scraps, be a fighter… and he’s not that, he’s not a fighter”.

Scamacca has recently been linked with a move away this summer, with a swift return to his homeland.

The Rome-born forward is reportedly a target for Inter Milan, who have earmarked him as a long-term replacement for Edin Dzeko.
