“He is the sort of player the club wants; Young, physical, something different to what they have in the squad, It represents a good deal on all fronts really if they can get it over the line”- Leeds urged to sign highly rated Sheffield United striker on a free this summer

Gretar Steinsson is among those spearheading Leeds United’s recruitment charge this summer.
Following their full takeover of the club 11 months ago, 49ers Enterprises have worked hard to build a proper behind-the-scenes structure at Elland Road.
Under previous owner Andrea Radrizzani, Victor Orta was effectively a one man band when it came to incomings and outgoings at the club.
However, that is a decision Leeds have since come to realise was a mistake, and so in the months since their buyout was completed, several appointments have been made to strengthen the recruitment department.
Nick Hammond was the first to arrive in June last year, initially on a temporary deal. However, he impressed so much, he was handed a longer-term deal.
Steinsson then followed him towards the end of the summer and played a key role in bringing Joel Piroe to Leeds, with Jordan Miles then completing the trio earlier this year.
Those in the recruitment department certainly have their hands full this summer, with plenty of work expected both in terms of incomings and outgoings. After failing to win promotion, Leeds have acknowledged key players will have to leave, but Paraag Marathe has promised funds will be available to replace them.
And the free agent market could certainly be somewhere in which they look to strengthen the squad, with plenty of bargains there to be had, including Sheffield United’s Daniel Jebbison.
Speaking exclusively to LeedsUnited.News, transfer insider Graeme Bailey has confirmed Steinsson is a big fan of Jebbison, who is out contract at Bramall Lane this month.
Bailey says though there is plenty of interest in the young striker, Leeds are looking to bring him in as someone who fits the bill of what Steinsson wants this summer.
He said: “He is the sort of player the club wants. Young, physical, something different to what they have in the squad, obviously youth. It would be a good deal, he is only young.
“There would be compensation to play but it wouldn’t be very expensive in terms of actual market value. It represents a good deal on all fronts really if they can get it over the line. It would be a decent coup because there is a lot of interest in him.”
Jebbison is still only 20 and so as mentioned by Bailey, Leeds would be required to pay a compensation fee if they were to win the race.
Due to injury, Jebbison was only able to appear once for the Blades last season as he came off the bench on the final day of the season to play 20 minutes in the defeat to Tottenham.
The season prior, Jebbison scored one goal in five starts as Sheffield United won promotion to the Premier League.
Jebbison really made a name for himself at the age of just 17 back in the 2020/21 campaign, when he marked his full Premier League and Blades debut with the winning goal at Everton. He has also had a spell on loan at Burton Albion, where he scored nine in 23 appearances.
