“He Could be a great signing for them, He has proven he can play in the Premier League”- PL pundit Carlton Palmer urges Wolves to make move to sign Southampton striker on a free this summer

Carlton Palmer believes Wolves would be making a good signing if they do win the race for Southampton’s Che Adams.

Wolves are in pole position to sign Che Adams on a free transfer this summer, a deal that would benefit all parties involved. Carlton Palmer believes Wolves would be an ideal destination for Adams due to their position in the Premier League and need for a striker.

Carlton Palmer believes that signing Che Adams would be a real coup for Wolves if they can land the Southampton striker on a free transfer this summer. The Scotland international has played his part in helping Southampton to fourth in the Championship this season, scoring ten goals in 30 appearances for Russell Martin’s side.

However, there are doubts about Adams’ long-term future, as his contract expires in the summer, and he has not signed an extension, which was on the table since earlier in the season.

Therefore, he looks set to depart St. Mary’s Stadium on a free transfer in the summer, and it has been claimed that Wolves are the frontrunners to bring the 27-year-old in.

Due to his contract situation, Adams is likely to have a few options in the coming months, but the chance to join Wolves may appeal.

Gary O’Neil’s side are sitting in the top-half of the Premier League, and they’ve made plenty of progress under the ex-Bournemouth chief. Plus, the lack of depth up top at Molineux means Adams will fancy his chances of getting regular minutes.

And, speaking to FLW, ex-England international Palmer explained why this could be a very good fit for all parties.

“I think it’s fair to say that Che was disappointed that he wasn’t allowed to leave when they were relegated. He made it clear he didn’t want to leave in January, to a club who may potentially not be in the Premier League next season.

“With Wolves set to stay in the Premier League, it could be a great signing for Wolves. But, I expect Everton, Crystal Palace, and a host of other clubs to be after Adams come the end of the season.

“He has proven he can play in the Premier League, he’s a Scottish international, and I know Wolves are desperate to bring in an out-and-out striker, and that would be a good place for him to go. He could be a very good signing for them.

“I think O’Neil has done an exceptional job with the current squad, the players like him and everything’s going well.

“So, I think that could be a good destination but, rest assured, there are a lot of clubs who will be chasing him, and maybe Southampton, if they get promoted, might be able to convince Adams to sign a new contract.”

Ultimately, Adams has left himself in a position where he can decide his next move, so it will be interesting to see where he does end up.

He will feel he warrants a chance in the top-flight, and Wolves’ interest suggests that offers from Premier League clubs will be forthcoming.

Yet, as Palmer says, the chance to pick Adams up on a free is a potential bargain, so it would be no surprise if there’s plenty of interest in the ex-Birmingham man. Firstly though, it will be all about winning promotion with Saints for the player, and he will then weigh up his options ahead of next season.
