‘Fans will want their club to stay away from him, He’ll not be a good signing” – PL Pundit warns Newcastle to avoid signing World Class Brazilian superstar this summer as Journalist confirms Toon interest
Newcastle United have been warned by Ally McCoist not to move for Neymar this summer.
The pundit was speaking on talkSPORT about the Brazil international amid links with the Premier League. Journalist Dean Jones recently claimed that there are legs to the speculation linking Neymar and Newcastle.
He wrote on GiveMeSport: “The interest from Newcastle does seem outrageous.
“I understand that some people will see the rumours about Neymar joining them and disregard them immediately.
“But there is some substance to this, from what a couple of contacts have told me who are usually well-informed about stories like this.
“I was told that members of the hierarchy love this idea, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they tried their luck.”
90min claimed earlier this month that PSG are open to selling Neymar this summer for at least £75million. Newcastle have enjoyed an outstanding season, with the new owners likely to see their club going into Europe.
Signing a player like Neymar would no doubt be a PR masterclass which would see the world’s media descend on St James’ Park.
However, from a squad harmony perspective, bringing Neymar in on a gargantuan contract may not be a great idea. And McCoist reckons Newcastle – and indeed Manchester United and Chelsea – should keep clear of the 31-year-old.
He also said Neymar “can forget” about joining Arsenal and Manchester City anytime soon too.
“He is not a good signing for Man United,” McCoist told talkSPORT.
“He’s not a good signing for Chelsea. He’s not a good signing for Newcastle.
“You can forget about him going Arsenal or Man City.”
The majority of Newcastle fans will no doubt want their club to stay away from Neymar.
Obviously he’s an incredibly talented player, but the reason the Magpies have done so well is because they’ve been shrewd with their business and built slowly and sustainably.
Newcastle would be better off continuing on the same trajectory and building a team like Napoli.
The Magpies should let their league positions, cup runs and potentially Champions League runs get all the PR.
