EXCLUSIVE: Wolves in advanced talks to sign Brazilian star Yuri Alberto on loan as Gary O’Neil looks to sign striker late in window

Wolves are in advanced talks to sign Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto, sources have told Football Insider. Gary O’Neil’s side have been chasing striking reinforcements throughout this month’s transfer window.

The Midlands club have now lined up a loan deal for the Brazil international as they look to bring in a new attacker before Thursday’s (1 February) transfer deadline.

Alberto, 22, came close to a move to West Ham in the summer transfer window only for the move to fall through at the eleventh hour.

He scored 15 goals and provided nine assists in 63 appearances across all competitions for Corinthians last season.

The forward is under contract at Corinthians until December 2027 after joining the Sao Paulo club last year (2023).

Alberto previously moved to European football with Zenit Saint-Petersburg in January 2022, but that move was cut short due to the war in Ukraine and he returned to Brazil just months later.

He has hit 59 goals and contributed 17 assists in 198 appearances across spells in his homeland with Corinthians, Internacional and Santos. The striker made his senior Brazil debut last year (2023), coming off the bench to face Morocco in a friendly.

Wolves are currently without 11-goal top scorer Hwang-hee Chan, who is with South Korea at the Asian Cup.

O’Neil’s side sit 11th in the Premier League and have built a healthy 11-point buffer to the relegation zone.
