EXCLUSIVE: West Ham in advanced talks to sign Arouna Sangante on loan as Hammers look to seal deadline-day deal for player
West Ham are in advanced talks to sign Le Havre star Arouna Sangante on loan, sources have told Football Insider.
The centre-back’s commanding performances have brought him onto the radar of a host of Europe’s top clubs and West Ham have moved to land him before Thursday night’s deadline.
It is believed that negotiations are at an advanced stage. Sangante, 21, is one of the hottest properties in French football after catching the eye at Le Havre in the last couple of seasons.
The Senegal-born central defender is already captain of Le Havre at the tender age of 21. He helped guide La Harve to promotion last season, who are now comfortably mid-table following their return to the top flight.
La Havre club president Jean-Michel Roussier confirmed to Football Insider late last year (27 December) that a host of Premier League clubs have been chasing January moves for the defender.
The Hammers are keen to bolster their defence late in the window in their bid to challenge in the Europa League and stay among the European places in the Premier League.
They look set for a busy deadline day and could sanction further first-team player departures following Said Benrahma’s reported move to Lyon.
As revealed by Football Insider (30 January), their deal for FC Nordsjaelland forward Ibrahim Osman stalled as the clubs could not agree a fee but new talks have taken place in a bid to resurrect the deal.
West Ham sit sixth in the Premier League table following a five-game unbeaten run.
They are next in action against Bournemouth at the London Stadium on Thursday evening (1 February).
