Exclusive: Leicester ruthlessly release seven players including January signing after Premier League relegation as club releases official statement

Leicester City have confirmed that seven players will depart the club after their dreadful 22/23 campaign ended in relegation.

The 15/16 Premier League champions endured a horrid season under Brendan Rodgers and Dean Smith before their relegation was confirmed on the last day of the season.

As the Foxes prepare for life in the second tier of English football, many players are expected to depart the King Power Stadium.

On Monday, it was confirmed that seven players will leave Leicester when their contracts come to an end.

Leicester announced the news on Twitter, saying: “Seven professionals are among those confirmed to leave #lcfc upon the expiration of their contracts this June.

“The Club extends its thanks to all seven players for their contributions during their time with us and wishes them every success in their careers.”

As expected Belgian midfielder Youri Tielemans will leave after posting an emotional goodbye message on Instagram last week.
During his time with Leicester, Tielemans scored the winner which sealed FA Cup glory in 2021.

In addition to Tielemans, Caglar Soyuncu, Daniel Amartey, Nampalys Mendy, Ryan Bertrand, Ayoze Perez and Tete have also been released.

Tete meanwhile will return to Shakhtar Donetsk after signing on a short-term deal during the January transfer window. Spanish winger Perez spent the second period of the 22/23 campaign on loan at La Liga side Real Betis and will now leave the club permanently.
