EXCLUSIVE: Leeds United now leading race to sign highly rated English left back in January as Daniel Farke identify player as long term replacement for Sam Byran
Leeds United, Everton and Burnley were all linked with a move to sign Gent’s English star Archie Brown and now an update has been reported – which claims Leeds are leading the race for the player’s signing.
Brown‘s stock is rising. The 21-year-old defender made the surprise move to leave England in 2021, joining Lausanne from Derby. He impressed at the Swiss side, earning a move to Gent in the summer.
A report last week stated that Leeds, Everton and Burnley were all looking to bring the left-back back to English football. A player that has said he harbours ambition of becoming the world’s best left-back.
Now, an update has emerged from Belgium. Voetbal Krant report that Leeds are pushing harder than any other interested party – ahead of the likes of Everton, Burnley, and clubs from Germany and Italy.
The report also states that clubs will have to pay a multiple of the £2.5m fee spent to lure him to Gent in the summer, meaning he will cost us or any other clubs for at least a fee of £5m. His deal ends in 2027.
Brown would be an excellent signing and might just be the long-term solution to our long-standing issue on the left side of the defence. A player with huge potential, proving as much in European football.
The issue is, that Leeds would have to wait until the summer to get him – given he has already played for two different clubs this term. He played for Lausanne before Gent. FIFA only allow two clubs per season.
It means Leeds would have to wait until the summer to get him – or, sign him in January and loan him back to Gent in January to allow him to continue playing. Perhaps, it is a deal Leeds will look to pursue.
