Daniel Farke is eyeing a reunion with Norwich City striker Josh Sargent should Leeds United return to the Premier League this summer.
That’s according to national newspaper reports on Sunday, who state that Farke is keen to sign Sargent up to his Premier League mission should Leeds edge past Southampton in the play-off final at Wembley next Sunday.
The Sunday Mirror print edition reports that Premier League trio Bournemouth, Brentford, and Fulham are also keen on pursuing a deal for the American international this summer after City’s play-off exit to Leeds last week.
Any move for Sargent would be costly given he extended his deal at Carrow Road until 2028 last summer, but his goalscoring form for the Canaries has piqued the interest of several clubs. Leeds wanted Sargent last summer after Farke was appointed at Elland Road, but that interest did not turn into anything substantial, with Norwich tying him down to a new long-term contract.
Farke was City’s head coach when Sargent moved from Werder Bremen in 2021 for a fee of £8million, but the German boss was sacked just a few months into their spell together after a poor start to the Premier League season.
Sargent has enjoyed the best season of goal-scoring form in his entire career at Carrow Road this season, largely owing to consistently operating as the number nine as opposed to being used as a makeshift winger.
16 goals in 24 Championship starts came in an injury-disrupted campaign for the 24-year-old, who was sidelined for four months with an ankle injury. His return was the catalyst for an upturn in form that helped catapult City into the play-offs, eventually losing to Farke’s side over two legs.
Sargent is one of several saleable assets that City are braced for interest in this summer, including midfielder Gabriel Sara, winger Jon Rowe and goalkeeper Angus Gunn. Norwich are set for a summer of change after dismissing head coach David Wagner within hours of their season coming to an end.
The American international is a doubt for the Copa America with his country after struggling with an injury in the final weeks of the Championship campaign as he failed to play 90 minutes of either play-off clash.
