EXCLUSIVE: Fabrizio Romano confirms Nottingham Forest bid for Brazilian winger has been rejected as club wants €40m for player, Reds face competition from Juventus

Despite Nottingham Forest being in the middle of their friendly game against Olympiacos, Fabrizio Romano has just dropped some big transfer news.

It has been quite the summer of transfers at the City Ground for Nuno Espirito Santo who has already seen six new faces signed. However, Forest are not looking to stop just there with the Reds now pushing to get signing number seven through the door ahead of their season opener.

Nuno’s side are now just a week away from kicking off their 2024/25 season with a game at home against Bournemouth. And it looks as if there are going to be a host of new faces on display for the Reds when they kick off next Saturday.

But there is one player, in particular, who Forest are now making their move for with a formal bid having now been submitted. Considering the business being done at the City Ground, Nuno has to be delighted with the backing he has received this summer.

Not only has Evangelos Marinakis offered him the players he needs to bolster his squad, but he has also brought them in ahead of the new season. And the large majority of those six signings were able to travel on the pre-season trip to Spain where team bonding will have been key.

According to Romano, Forest have just had a bid rejected by Porto for the services of Brazilian winger Galeno.

The interest remains strong from the Reds despite having seen their bid rejected but face strong competition from Juventus.

It is claimed the Portuguese side have set their target at €40m (£34m) for their Brazilian winger this summer as Forest now go back to the drawing board.

The 26-year-old enjoyed an impressive 2023/24 campaign with Porto where he was able to return nine goals and seven assists in the league alone. And the Brazilian winger also provided five goals and three assists in their Champions League campaign.

With Juventus also lurking, clearly this is a player who is very highly thought of across Europe and with those type of numbers in the Champions League it is no surprise.

Forest have strong competition in the wide positions, but if they could land a player like Galeno then that would be a real statement of the club’s intent for the new season.

However, the cynical may also say it could open the door to a big departure with Newcastle United interested in Anthony Elanga.
