EXCLUSIVE: Daniel Podence hints he still wants Wolves exit with cryptic social media post despite Gary O’Neil openly confirming he wants to keep player at Molineux this summer

Daniel Podence has added fuel to the fire regarding the speculation over his Wolves future with a message he sent on social media last night.

The attacker did not accompany his teammates on the trip to the US for the second stage of pre-season. It was reported that Podence had picked up an injury, and therefore he did not travel with the squad. Goncalo Guedes was said to have taken his place.

Podence did go to Marbella, and made a really strong impression. He was said to be one of the fittest players in the squad, and really impressed in the training sessions. He also drew praise for sticking up for Hwang Hee-chan, who overheard a racist remark in the game against Como 1907.

But speculation has continued to swirl about Podence, and now he has sent an interesting message on social media. Wolves had wanted to offload the player last summer. But suitable offers were not forthcoming and in the end, the club sanctioned a loan move back to his former club. They extended his contract in the process.

Some Wolves fans have been reading about how Podence has fared in pre-season for Wolves and would love to see him stick around for 2024/25.

Gary O’Neil has also admitted himself that he would like to keep the player.

But Podence may well have provided a strong hint as to who he would like to play for next season. Last night on X, he uploaded a picture of himself holding the Europa Conference League trophy from last season.

He didn’t write any words in the caption, but did use the speech bubble emoji and trophy emoji.

Podence message hints he’s off

While Podence has impressed in Wolves pre-season, the narrative has still been that he wants to leave the club. And this message does imply that he is thinking about Olympiacos, who have been looking to re-sign him following his fantastic stint there last season.

It just seems very calculated, given all the speculation. If there was no way you were going to join a club you’re being strongly linked with, you probably would not upload a picture of yourself in that team’s colours.

Perhaps something is in the offing and his exit from Wolves will be announced soon. That would be a great shame, because he would have offered a lot in the coming season.

Podence’s talents as a player have never been in doubt and arguably, he is one of the most naturally gifted players on the payroll at Molineux.
