EXCLUSIVE: Burnley in advanced talks to sign highly experienced Borussia Dortmund fullback Thomas Meunier on loan with Connor Roberts now edging closer to Leeds transfer

Burnley are in advanced talks with Borussia Dortmund to sign veteran defender Thomas Meunier, sources have told Football Insider.

The 32-year-old in closing in on a switch from the Bundesliga giants to the Premier League on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Clarets are keen on bringing in defensive reinforcements during the window and have turned their attention to the former PSG full-back.

The 32-year-old has fallen out of favour at the Signal Iduna Park and has made just seven appearances in the Bundesliga this term.

Vincent Kompany’s side are looking for further depth on their flanks, as they prepare for life without Connor Roberts with the Lancashire club in talks with Leeds over a sale.

The Wales international is open to making the switch ahead of the European Championship qualifying play-offs.

Roberts, 28, has made 88 appearances for the Clarets since joining from Swansea in 2021. However, he has struggled for gametime this season, starting just eight of Burnley’s 22 Premier League matches, with Vitinho often preferred by Vincent Kompany.

The Clarets have now identified Meunier as replacement for Roberts but are facing a race against time with the 11pm deadline looming large.

Meunier has had successful spells across Europe with Club Brugge, Paris Saint-Germain and Dortmund, racking up 408 senior appearances and scoring 36 goals.
