Exclusive: Aston Villa reportedly submit formal offer for La Liga defender as Unai Emery’s side look to see off competition from Juventus for player’s signing

Aston Villa have reportedly submitted a ‘formal offer’ for Villarreal defender Pau Torres but face competition from Italian giants Juventus, it is claimed.

The 26-year-old previously worked with Villa boss Unai Emery when the Spanish club won the Europa League in 2021, beating Manchester United on penalties in Gdansk.

BirminghamLive understands that the centre-back is ready to leave Villarreal this summer and is attracting interest from top clubs across Europe. Villa admire the centre-back who has a €50 million release clause in his contract but clubs could negotiate a lower fee as he enters the final year of his deal at the La Liga side.

And reports in Spain from La Cadena SER claim that the Villans and one unnamed club have submitted an ‘official offer’ for Torres. They also claim that Juventus are interested but the Italians have ‘not yet submitted an official bid.’

They report that Torres will make a decision on his future during his month long holiday which begins on Monday. It is also claimed that Villarreal’s intention is to ‘close everything as soon as possible’ and they want it to be resolved ‘in the coming days or, at the latest, weeks.’

Torres has spent his entire career at Villarreal apart from a year-long loan spell at Malaga during the 2018/19 season. He has also been capped 26 times for the Spanish national team.
