Former Nottingham Forest striker Stan Collymore has given his reaction to the club’s charge for alleged breaches of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability rules.

Forest, along with Everton, have been charged by the Premier League and now have two weeks to respond. The case is likely to go to an independent commission who will then deliver their assessment and decide on any punishments.

It’s not the first time that Everton have been charged with a breach. The Toffees were deducted 10 points back in October, but are currently in the process of appealing that punishment.

In a statement, the Premier League confirmed: “Everton FC and Nottingham Forest FC have each confirmed to the Premier League that they are in breach of the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR). This is as a result of sustaining losses above the permitted thresholds for the assessment period ending Season 2022/23.

“In accordance with Premier League Rules, both cases have now been referred to the chair of the Judicial Panel, who will appoint separate Commissions to determine the appropriate sanction.

“Commissions are independent of the Premier League and member clubs. The proceedings are heard in private with the Commissions’ final decisions made public on the Premier League’s website. The League will make no further comment until that time.”

Manchester City have also been charged with an alleged 115 breaches of the rules. But the complexity of the case means that it is taking longer to conclude and therefore, any possible punishments.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, Collymore pointed to the Man City case when delivering his assessment of the charges against Forest and Everton. “No problem with any club being sanctioned for breaches of long known and clear rules,” he wrote.

“The name of the club doesn’t matter. Every club should be treated equally under the rules set out.

“But the elephant in the room isn’t being addressed. 115 charges, zero action. Why?”

The timeline of the charge against Forest means that the club should know of any possible punishments, including points deductions, before the end of the current season. However, the appeal process could take the situation beyond the end of the campaign.
