“Everton, Wow, I’m starting to think this ten-point deduction could cost them the league title, They’re an absolute joy to watch, you’ve got to give them credit”- Gary Linker full of praise for Everton after good form as he makes cheeky PL title contenders remark
Micah Richards and Gary Lineker were full of praise for Everton and Sean Dyche after they put together a four-game winning streak with a 2-0 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor.
Lineker joked that the ten-point deduction handed to Everton by the Premier League was getting in the way of a possible title challenge at Goodison Park.
Richards continued by sharing his view that Dyche has given the players confidence to go and perform, and has them playing good, entertaining football.
Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast [18 December], Lineker joked: “Everton, wow. I’m starting to think this ten-point deduction could cost them the league title.”
Richards went on to share: “We said, though, didn’t we? We said they’d have a massive improvement, Everton. You have to give them credit now because they’re just a well-organised football team who’ve got confidence, who are playing good football, all being marshalled by the manager.
“They’re an absolute joy to watch, that’s what’s so good.”
Dyche has worked wonders since he arrived at Goodison Park, managing the turnaround from the disastrous end to Frank Lampard’s era almost a year ago to now putting together four consecutive wins and clean sheets in the Premier League, and he deserves his praise.
The only surprise is that it’s taken as long as it has for that praise to be shared. The points deduction shone a new spotlight onto Everton, capturing people’s attention as they wondered what state it would leave the Toffees in.
If anybody else was in charge, you’d probably have worried, but the boss thrives on being able to bring his squad together and rally behind a cause, so those hoping to see a rapid downfall were quickly dismissed as Dyche-ball kicked into full swing.
Without that points deduction, Everton would sit tenth in the league, behind Brighton only on goal difference. That in itself is a testament to the great work being done at Goodison Park.
