DEADLINE DAY: Leicester City complete 9th summer transfer signing on deadline day as Foxes sign Everton striker

The 20-year-old has joined on a five-year deal from Everton for a fee of £7.5m after impressing on loan at Preston in the Championship for the second half of last season

Leicester City have completed their ninth and final signing of the transfer window with striker Tom Cannon joining from Everton on a five-year deal.

An hour after the deadline passed, City have confirmed the arrival of the Republic of Ireland youth international, who was targeted on a dramatic final day of the window.

City wanted to do the deal, which could be worth up to £7.5m, to avoid being left with just Jamie Vardy up front when the Africa Cup of Nations come around at the start of next year, with first-choice forward Kelechi Iheanacho to head off to represent Nigeria.

The deal looked like it would free up Patson Daka to depart, with the Zambian first in talks with AC Milan and then heading to Bournemouth, only for a deal to collapse at the eleventh hour.

But even with Daka’s move off, it has not hampered Cannon’s arrival and the 20-year-old has signed up at the King Power Stadium until 2028.

He will hope to make the sort of impact he had on loan at Preston last season. In what was his first senior spell, he scored eight goals in 20 appearances for North End, who had hoped to take him back to Deepdale before City swooped.

He made one substitute appearance for Everton this season but the Toffees have sanctioned his sale.
