CONFIRMED: Good news for Burnley as Fabrizio Romano confirms Clarets have now opened talks to sign French defender Maxim Esteve with player one of Kompany’s priority targets to improve squad this January
Premier League side Burnley are set to lodge a bid to sign Montpellier HSC centre-back Maxime Estève (21), according to renowed journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Estève, a left-footed centre-back, is under contract with Montpellier until the end of the 2024/25 season, and he is expected to garner significant interest as the end of his current deal nears. However, Burnley are looking to steal a march on the competition and have now opened talks and with a bid imminent for the Frenchman.
The value of this bid has not yet been revealed, however, Les Héraults are fully aware of the English club’s interest, and have even begun to put a contingency plan in place, which is in itself a sign of the intensity of Burnley’s interest in Estève.
Following their fantastic season in the Championship and subsequent promotion, Burnley always knew that life in the Premier League was going to be a struggle, but perhaps not quite as difficult as it has been.
That’s why, after just three wins in 21 games, the Clarets are trying to improve their defence with Maxime Estève. Burnley are expected to ‘quickly send an offer’ for the 21-year-old centre-back as they continue their hunt for a left-footed central defender.
